The UNYA progamme in our school

The United Nations Youth Award (UNYA) is a global programme that enables young people to complete a challenging self-development programme, engage with the UN, participate in social and environmental initiatives, and receive acknowledgement for their efforts.

Students from Internacional Aravaca school have enrolled the programme in the area of forest. The class of 2ºESO has been divided into four teams, and each one has designed and developed a different project following the UNYA guidelines on forest. The four projects will be presented to a jury formed by school teachers, who will decide which deserves the Forest Badge.

Our goals

We decided to participate in the Forest Challenge Badge initiative because:

Students will acquire a good knowledge on the ecology of forest, the services they provide and their threats.

Teamwork skills will be developed, such as listening to each other's ideas and supporting group decisions.

Students enhance their ability to work with a project-oriented approach, in which they have to accomplish with the project timeline and deadlines.

Creativity is boosted, as each team decides how to accomplish with the programme's requirements to earn the badge.

Forest Hike

The class went for a hike to Abantos Forest. Located next to the village of El Escorial, this unique ecosystemhas become a refuge for many wild species such as wild boars, roa deers and birds.

Students had the opportunity of taking pictures, interviewing a forest warden and collecting samples of vegetation for completing their projects.
